About twenty years ago I was commissioned to make a set of eight dining chairs to go in the home in Florida. The clients wanted a different motif on each chair. The same marquetry picture is on both the inside and outside of the back. This makes it look as if the marquetry goes through the whole one-inch thickness. We chose eight different animals; four insects and four reptiles or amphibians.
The clients wanted the chairs black and so I ebonized cherry. We decided that using colorful dyed woods in the marquetry would really “pop”.
