Floyd Collins was a Kentucky cave explorer who became trapped in a cave in the 1920’s. His attempted rescue became a national media sensation. Print and radio reporters were camped out waiting days to see if he could be saved. sadly he didn’t make it.
I have a bit of a claustrophobic streak. Decided to make a marquetry image of myself trapped in a box. I took a piece of glass and pressed my face and hands on it and took a picture. I made the drawing from the photo.
The box is the size of a blanket chest. The primary wood is paddock and the veneer is tineo. The “lock” (which serves as a handle) is carved satinwood.
