Sloppy Paint Job

I wanted to to take a fairly straight-forward furniture form and add an amusing bit of marquetry to it. This little cabinet was made from shedua (an African wood) and the panels were pieced together with a diamond parquetry. I had some satinwood that had nice color and figure and I pieced “brushstrokes” together in layers, one on top of the other. I made a marquetry paint brush as if it is sitting on top of the cabinet. The end of the “bristles” has a the same satinwood as if it’s the paint on the brush.

The final part of the marquetry was to inlay drips running down the front and side of the piece.
