This is a life-size marquetry portrait of my father. It is as if he were looking in a mirror and adjusting his tie.
The marquetry picture was cut and glued into a panel. This panel is pressed into the frame with the glass mirror. Where the picture is I scraped the silver off the back of the glass. This makes the wood essentially on the same level as the silver of the mirror. The intent was to make the portrait look like it is inlaid into the mirror.
The background looks white because the photographer set up a paper backdrop in the studio so the mirror didn’t reflect everything else in the room.
