There is an inherent beauty in the parabolic shape. Perhaps it’s because of the mathematics involved. Gravity forces parabolas everywhere. The arc of a projectile is parabolic. If you hang a chain from two points the shape formed is a parabola.
I built this piece from some beautiful satinwood and framed it with ebonized maple. The black cracks are cut as marquetry from another ebonized veneer. There are four sets of doors and an area at the top that holes a digital clock. I wanted to make the hole at the top look like it had been shattered and the cracked ran away from the hole with the pieces getting bigger and bigger.
