A trip to italy in 1984 introduced me to the portrait intarsia of Antonio Barili Antonio Barili self-portrait. I had previously seen a photo of his self-portrait at work. When I errand I thought I’d give a self-portrait a try.

I took a photo of myself chewing on a piece of celery, and then turned the celery into a branch of a tree. I made myself gnawing on it like a beaver. (“the best tool in the shop for fitting those tight tendons”).

The style of the table is simple and the emphasis is on the marquetry. The solid wood is oak and the background is oak burl.
